Welcome to the online home of Simon Pretty Furniture
Simon followed in the steps of his grandfathers to pursue professional woodworking. A City & Guilds foundation in cabinet making was swiftly followed by an HND in Furniture Studies at Highbury College. Successful trials for the Arts & Crafts founded Edward Barnsley Workshop enabled Simon to start as an apprentice.
Simon flourished in the traditional training scheme undergoing tuition dedicated to the fundamentals of wood working. After two years he was supervising the new apprentice and after his own apprenticeship finished was asked to stay on at the workshop. During his time at the Barnsley Workshop Simon helped train apprentices and students, worked on some exquisite furniture and was also awarded two Guild Marks from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers for excellence in craftsmanship.
In 2005, a call from the blue ended up with a relocation to the islands of Bermuda. Simon began work for Fine Furniture & Antique Restorations, producing a different style of furniture but still achieving his own exacting standards. Whilst in Bermuda Simon also undertook additional work in joinery and milling, most notably to produce nearly every wooden item in a renovation of a classic Bermudian home in the country's capital.
Now into a third year of trading from his Curbridge workshop, Simon is becoming well established locally and works for private individuals and local companies. His attention to detail and finish has been rewarded with many customers returning for more items.
